Theory and practical

Morning - learn the theory of curls. Matt will go into detail about the science of curls, truths, myths, techniques, and products.

Afternoon - get hands-on with practical work where you get to explore what it’s like cutting curly hair dry, without the use of combs, applying products, and how to use a defuser efficiently.

WHAT WE'LL COVER:

Truths and myths of curls - let’s debunk a lot of the hyperbole of what goes on Facebook and other social media. We'll bring it back to basics so you can get an understanding of what curly hair actually needs and remove that fear

Curl types - what curl type is your client? We’ll cover the different curl types and characteristics

Cutting - we'll cover curly hair cutting techniques and why cutting hair dry is so important, as well as what to avoid!

Science - what curly hair really needs from products and ingredients and what it doesn’t need. We'll answer that question once and for all… “does my hair need hydration or protein?”

Get answers - why should curly hair be treated differently? What is frizz? What is co washing and is it still necessary?

Matthew opened Spring in 2015 a salon specifically for curly and textured hair. With over 15 years of experience working exclusively with curls, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his teaching. Aware there’s big holes in our knowledge within the industry, he enjoys sharing all that he has learned over years to make our industry the best it can be.

Doors open no earlier than 9.45 am for a 10.00 am start so please do not arrive before then as we will be super busy getting ready for you 💛

We try to finish as close to 6 pm as possible, due to these being practical courses, we may overrun, we recommend booking your travel home as late as possible to avoid missing out on your education.

Yes, you'll be working with live models, you'll be sharing them with other attendees.

It's not your standard demo in the morning and models in the afternoon.

The demo and your models will be interwoven throughout the day. You will share models, move models, and work along side me with my models.

Yes, but canceling will incur an admin fee of £15 and fees incurred by our payment partners.

If you need to cancel your enrollment for an in-person course, please notify us at management@notanotheracademy.com with a minimum of 28 days' notice before the scheduled course date to be eligible for a refund.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds outside of that timeframe.

Please be aware that cancellations are subject to an administrative processing fee of £15, which will be deducted from the refund amount.

Additionally, any payment processing fees incurred by our payment partners will also be deducted from the refund.
